Perhaps in your head you do. When you're a blogger, you get to choose your own hours, post whenever you please, and discuss whatever interests you.

My question of whether or not you "truly work for yourself" refers to something else, however.

Even though it's your blog and you may ostensibly do anything you want with it, you're still constrained by a few factors. Google traffic: do you depend on it? Is your blog's revenue generated via an ad network? To what extent do you engage in product promotion for the purpose of earning referral fees or commissions?

You serve others in all of those roles. To be more specific, you need the help of people in order to generate money off of your site.

The idea that you may monetize your blog is now trending in the online writing community. About be fair, some slacker bloggers (I'm NOT talking to you) are mostly responsible for spreading the word.

Putting Google AdSense code on your site and waiting for the money to stream in is a breeze. They don't even realise they don't have a choice, and most people believe that.

The most that can be done is a switch in the advertising platform.

Using advertisements to monetize content is perfectly acceptable. The money you earn through advertisements can never compare to the money you make when you're your own boss.

When you're your own boss, how do things usually go? Your own goods and services are being offered for sale.

The first thing to do is construct a venue from which to market your wares.

Prepare a foundation

Creating a new blog isn't something you do on a whim. Everyone with access to the internet can do it because of how simple it is. Your platform is constructed.

The benefits of blogging do not appear right away. Only until you become an established expert in your field will you see any real financial gain. When what you say to other people is accurate, makes sense, and improves their life in some manner, you have effectively communicated truth.

Gaining respect and attention from your target audience takes more than a short period of time — weeks, months, or even years — to accomplish (unless you have a lot of pals on Digg).

It will take effort and regular writing on your part to make your blog noticeable.

If you have to depend only on advertising revenue, you'll lose interest in blogging before long... causing you to ponder the pointlessness of your blog's existence.

But if you have a long-term objective in mind, you may keep producing material and expanding your sphere of influence until you're ready to monetize your knowledge.

Put your knowledge on the market.

Blog for authority and you'll not only become more well-versed in your field of study, but also more widely recognized as an authority on the subject.

Your target audience has high standards, and they expect you to meet them. If you write on a topic they're curious in, they'll read it in order to learn more.

And now is the time, my fellow experts, to begin charging for your services.

Of course, there is no need to charge visitors to your site anything; they are, after all, doing you a favour by reading you rather than any number of other blogs out there.

However, you may utilise your knowledge, abilities, and experience to develop a service or product that addresses a significant issue faced by your target market.

Products and services might be whatever you have to offer, such as an ebook, an interactive course, a tool, or even simply your consultation and advise.

Form Alliances

You can handle anything on your own. To the contrary, if you feel that you're lacking in any particular area, don't be afraid to ask for help from those who have the necessary expertise.
