Summary of the position:
The organisation Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a pioneer in the protection of migrant and refugee children who are unaccompanied.
KIND, which was founded in 2008, advocates for a future in which every child's rights and wellbeing are safeguarded while they make their way to safety.
Over 23,000 referrals of kids seeking legal counsel in their immigration cases have been received by KIND since 2008. Since its inception, KIND has hosted more than 41,000 participants at trainings and built relationships with more than 700 law firms, corporate legal departments, law schools, and bar associations around the nation.
Children of migrants and refugees—who frequently have experienced trauma—are guaranteed to receive counselling, educational support, medical attention, and other comprehensive services through KIND's social services programme.
KIND promotes policy changes and informs policymakers, the media, and the general public on the issues that prompt these children to escape their home countries in order to address the underlying causes of child migration from Central America and increase the protection of unaccompanied children. KIND funds gender-based violence prevention projects in Central America to safeguard children in the nations of origin and transit and assists children returning to their home countries by linking them to crucial support resources.
